playing house

We just spent about an hour putting together one of these doll houses made by Plan Toys and purchased at Goodnite Moon. It was definitely not fun assembling but it was well worth it. It's perfectly styled for our sophisticated two-year old. So stylish, in fact, that I almost want to play with it myself. Unfortunately I didn't realize that the dolls were not included in the "chalet dollhouse with furniture". I revisited the Plan Toys website to see how I could have been so dense and under the dollhouse, accompanying the following image of the dolls, they say, and I quote, "add more fun". Um, yeah?! Nevertheless, this house it's already a hit in ours.

And I thought our art projects were cool. Who am I kidding? Cookie just introduced me to a blog called No Time for Flash Cards. Created by a stay at home mom with a background in Early Childhood Education she takes you step by step through various arts & crafts (and an occasional song) with her son as the blossoming artist. I'm saving this one for a rainy day...or tomorrow for that matter.

Found these images and the following explanation on design*sponge last night. It's such a clever idea I'm already working with the teachers at our pre-school to create a smaller scale but similar project for the 4-5 year olds.

Artist "yeondoo jung decided to bring children’s drawings to life in a series of photographs called 'wonderland'. after collecting more than 1,000 drawings from south korean children between the ages of 5 and 7 he narrowed the drawings down to a small selection of favorites and staged full-scale photoshoots designed to bring each drawing to life."

I am an admitted pack-rat when it comes to the kid's artwork. I rarely throw anything out and I normally remember to scribble the date on the back before I add it to the stash but I certainly never would have thought of this. Fortunately, someone at cookie magazine did!

wikki what?

If you've eaten at PF Chang's (and you have kids) then chances are that you have twisted a wikki. If you haven't (and you have kids) then they are certainly worth a whirl. They are made of wax and yarn, have innumerable uses and involve far less clean-up than play-doh.
