we've been spotted!

As luck would have it, one of our dear friends unintentionally snuck her zuzu girl handmade headband into a Mom magazine photo shoot.  And low and behold the stylist loved it!  Yippee for us!!

Kalen, on the left, is sporting one of our petite ribbon headbands.  And we couldn't thank her enough for the gesture.  You can pick up your copy of Mom at your local Barnes & Noble or Borders Bookstores today...

girl friday

So it appears that I've only been posting on Fridays lately.
Well that's not good!
In all fairness, we have been to the pediatrician three times in the last six days and tomorrow will mark the second trip to my doctor. Not much of a summer vacation so far I tell you.

But we did have a lovely Father's Day. That's dear daughter at Father's Day lunch pictured above. She's sporting a new zuzu girl handmade charming blooms headband while sucking down a yummy apple cider. I just couldn't resist the photo op.

In our down time at home, and clearly instead of blogging, we've been watching lots of this...

And I've been doing a little on line shopping here...
(beware, it's almost as addictive as Etsy!)

I ordered the most fabulous Haven Girl sequin dress for Zuzu's birthday party at more than 50% off the original retail. It was still stupid expensive but you only turn 4 once. Right? It looks like this... but (and I mean no disrespect to this lovely model) it will look far cuter on Zuzu...

Sequins are absolutely essential for birthday party #4.
Of that I am convinced!

And so, I say adieu to Thursday.... for tomorrow is Friday yet again.

Here's to a healthier week for us all and a few more blog posts to boot.

best birthday looks - number 19

I've been away for a bit challenging our family record in number of trips to the pediatrician, after hours clinic & pharmacy in a two week span of time. I am proud to announce that not only were all of our illnesses fairly insignificant (although slightly annoying and uncomfortable) but we have successfully beaten that record.

We have also managed to somehow find ourselves included as #19 on the list of "The Best Birthday Outfits and Accessories" broadcast today on the homepage of parenting.com.

We are humbled and honored.  And, coincidentally, we are headed on vacation tomorrow to attend to an important family matter.  Timing is everything, eh?  We will keep the shop open for orders and inquiries but will be forced to suspend shipping until we return next Tuesday, the 23rd of March.

Thank you for your continued support of zuzu girl handmade and we'll see you soon!

stocking stuffers!

What? What's that you say? You haven't started stuffing the stockings yet? Oh my. What will you do? Oh right, lucky you! I have some fabulous ideas for you tonight. And wouldn't you know they all come from the same place? One stop shopping at zuzu girl handmade!

But seriously, we still have lots of little lovelies looking for homes for the holidays. We've even added a special SALE section this week. We'll be open until Wednesday morning, December 16th to ship these pretty little things and then we're taking a long overdue vacation. We hope you are too!

bossy e

I made these sweet ponies for Little Miss Emma tonight. Emma is not bossy in the least, it just happened to be the first title name that came into my head. I'm going to have her test them out in her sassy blond locks. If those shiny bossy E's hold up after enough use they might just become available for your sweet one too. Even if her name isn't Emma.

got wands?

We do! We're stocking up the shop with our meticulously hand-crafted princess wands. At zuzu girl handmade we use only the best ribbon, tulle & decorative flowers to construct our little lovelies. Our flower wands are perfect for Halloween costumes, Christmas stockings or just plain goofing off. A girl can never have too many. And if you don't believe me, just ask Zuzu.

reality check

Sometimes I wonder why I don't get anything done.
Other times it's pretty evident.
Zuzu thought naked Barbie would be an excellent prop for this photo shoot.
I tend to disagree.

life, love & percival road

Apologies for my brief absence but while not obsessively re-photographing the entire zuzu girl handmade etsy shop & making cute little things like this...

...I've been doing a lot of this...

But I promise to come back and visit you soon with more fabulous finds like this...

stop...thief!

Zuzu strikes again.
But why is it that she always sets her mind on my favorite designs? Coincidence? I think not. I like to think she just has super taste!

She's hit me up twice this week. First a delicate pink rose ribbon wand and then this lively dream catcher. How could I possibly say no to "is that for my room?" and, "that will help make my bad dreams go away" after a night like last night? It was hanging over her bed (as shown) before the glue even had time to dry.

Now let's see if it works on that damn *mean witch*. Wish us luck!

running wild

Posted a newly designed ribbon wand in the shop today. Wrap the ribbon around the wand then let your little ballerina twirl to her heart's delight while the ribbon comes unfurled. Your child will love running and spinning with more than four foot of delicate ribbon floating behind her.

I made a pink one too but it was quickly snatched up by ms. zuzu herself. I suppose that's a good sign! More colors coming soon...

happy new year!

Still a little sleepy around here. Finally got around to making a new wand last night after assembling 8 tutus for my ballet costume order the day prior. I'm enjoying getting back to work but hesitant to get too excited as the CPSIA is still looming...and less than six weeks away.

I'm still toying with the idea of combining my two blogs to make my life & yours easier. Thinking of going to wordpress so that I can organize by tab but intimidated by starting all over and don't want to go through all the effort if zuzu girl handmade doesn't have a future. So terribly sad.

In the meantime, please feel free to visit me at "and the beat goes on..." if you're getting bored here. We'd love to have you!

tres chic

Inspired by the pink & green hula rock hand-tied ribbon tutu...zuzu girl just introduced a new fairy princess ribbon tutu. I made it to match the black, purple & champagne headband already listed in the shop and the two together are oh, so sophisticated. Didn't have to pull out any bribes for this photo shoot. Zuzu was loving her new look!

hula rock, continued

These are some pictures of the ribbon tutu that I designed to be worn with the pink & green headbands mentioned here. The little ballerinas are dancing to "hula rock" and if and when I get a link to the song I'll let you listen!

Any thoughts on the ribbon tutu? Think they are a worthy addition to the shop?

hula rock

Just finished a new pink & green collection. The headband & crown are for sale now at zuzu girl and the matching ribbon tutu is just waiting for a (tidy & willing) little body to model it. This collection is inspired by The Little Gym ballet class that will be wearing the ensemble when they groove to "hula rock" for their January end of season performance.

stocking stuffers!

I'm loving these extra large silk flowers that I used today. Wrapped in bright orange and bright pink ribbon these new wands are one-of a kind and have just been added to the shop. Great for stocking stuffers...imagine one of these lovelies peeking out of the top on Christmas morning. Just lovely!

tag, I'm it

The glass chickadee happened to be looking for bloggers to tag in a "seven things about me" meme and for some spontaneous reason (highly unlike me) I volunteered. If you're not familiar with an internet meme here is the general premise as copied and pasted from chickadees blog...

1. Link to your tagger and list these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog, random and weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post, include links to their blogs.
4. Let them know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blogs.

Let the embarassment begin...
1. I am a sugar addict. However, since I have two kids that would happily follow suit I hide the dark chocolate, often in the form of chocolate chips which go seemingly undetected as they are presumed to be for baking.
2. I heart Vinnie Chase.
3. I am a neat freak. My poor children will probably never learn how to clean up after themselves because I put all their toys away... often while they are still playing with them.
4. I shoot approximately 100 photographs a day of my children. I'm surprised kodak gallery has not imploded from over use but I suppose we keep them in business.
5. I am terrified of bugs. All kinds. Abhor them.
6. My guilty musical pleasure is Justin Timberlake. (I can't believe I just typed that.)
7. I was an avid dancer as a kid & starred as Kermit the Frog in a Muppet themed dance recital at the age of 11.

Now for the tagging part. I pass on this seven things about me task to the following seven bloggers:
Devin
Demanda
Tilt
Jamie
Susan
Elizabeth

zuzu's been featured!

That's right, our little shop has been featured as "etsy artist of the week" on Meditations from the Moondog.
